Entering its 144th year, the Western Fair has seen decades of excitement including carnival rides, concerts, rodeos, competitions, and a wide variety of fair foods. This year, experience the annual event with fresh eyes. Your Faves Are Back! Feel the giddy, nostalgic fall fair feeling with the reintroduction of yesteryear classics and create memories by visiting one of many new attractions. Here are a few of the exciting highlights that you can look forward to.
The tastes: Fair food galore - including back bacon on a bun and a plethora of pie
The wait is almost over to enjoy the fair treats that you have dreamed of since last September! Whether you are a sweet or savoury person, there’s no shortage of options. Enjoy lip-smacking funnel cakes, fresh-cut fries, mini donuts (78,789 to be exact) and frozen treats. After a hiatus, back bacon on a bun will be making a triumphant return. New this year, savour a scrumptious slice of homemade pie, prepared fresh by local baking extraordinaire Grandma’s Oven. Have specific dietary restrictions or fair food just isn’t for you? The I Love Local tent has many satiating food and drink options available.
The sounds: Outdoor concerts are back in the Grandstand, September 10-12
Listen to educational facts in The Big Barn. Follow your ears to hear great local talent perform at I Love Local and Rise2Fame. Immerse yourself in the shouts of laughter, the chatter of players socializing and finally the excited BINGO! exclamation as players of all skill levels compete to win the fair favourite game. Grab a seat in the big tent located in the Midway for your chance at shouting Bingo for prizes. Hear the animals with their ‘Brays’ and ‘Moos’ from The Barnyard. Get excited by the hit songs and screams of thrill-seekers from The Midway. The ‘Braaaaap!’ of freestyle motocross. The roar of the demo derby will be heard above all.
Crisp fall evenings, new comfortable stadium-style seating, and three evenings of fall fair rock concerts will strike a chord among generations of fairgoers.The Trews featuring Julian Taylor Band will be performing Tuesday September 10. Marianas Trench with Virginia to Vegas will take the stage on Wednesday September 11. Experience co-headliners Trooper with Platinum Blonde on Thursday September 12. The sights: View it all from the classic Big Wheel
See The Midway illuminated by 156,000 lights. Witness amazing acts of strength and agility at the Lumberjack Show, or cheer on your favourite wrestlers at the SMASH Wrestling Match. Get your cute canine fix at the new WaterBARK acrobat performance. There’s something for all at this year’s fair, including access to free entertainment and shows with the purchase of your GA ticket, including the highly anticipated RIDETHEVIBE and Venom takes centre stage in the Progress Building. Animal education exhibits will be back in ‘The Big Barn’ in the Agriplex. Returning for another year, classic favourites like the Demolition Derby and the Rodeo will once again be free for fairgoers to enjoy with a general admission fair ticket. The weekend market at The Market at Western Fair District will continue regular hours Saturday (8am - 3pm) and Sunday (10am - 2pm) during the 10 days of the fair, with a variety of vendors selling fresh food, locally grown produce, carefully crafted artisans and more. Fairgoers will be able to access The Market through the Park entrance on fair weekends.

- The 10-day long fair starts September 6 and ends, September 15, 2019.

- There is onsite parking daily for fairgoers and those visiting The Market.
- TIP: The Fairgrounds can get crowded, It’s best to go in with a plan of what you want to see and do. Better yet, take advantage of the bounce back ticket to visit again at a reduced cost. It also tends to get more crowded in the late afternoon and evening so plan to arrive on the early side if you can!
- TIP: The fair grounds are extensive, make sure to wear comfortable shoes for walking or take advantage of the wagon rides to The Big Barn.
