Week Two At The Raceway - Giddy Up!

So here we are with a brand-new race meet in London… It’s now ‘week two’ and one thing that certainly stands out, for me anyway, are the number of quick opening quarter miles we’ve seen. Last night we witnessed Oakrock Eldorado (Austin Sorrie) taking on Phone In (Colin Kelly) to the quarter mile in 26.3… And I’m pretty sure we’ve seen more 27 and change opening quarters, in just five race cards, than we saw during the whole ‘shortened-up’ race meet last season. Of course racing in summer-like temperatures, in October, is likely aiding in the quick speed, but it’s been ‘racy’ out there and it has been fun to call the action!

Now being a Maritimer, myself, it’s been easy for me to take note of the Maritimers competing both out west and in London. From Facebook, Twitter and Instagram messages - to phone calls, texts and emails - I’ll hear from the folks ‘back home’ on a regular basis and they’re watching and cheering for the Kelly’s, Sorrie, MacKenzie, Rankin and many others.

Filling in as our track photographer, this week, Ryan Clements was able to capture a pair of race finishes - that certainly caught my eye - from this past Monday evening at The Raceway. It would be the ‘old boys club’ of Paul MacKenize and Don Rankin Jr. getting the best of the ‘new kids on the block’ in Austin Sorrie and Colin Kelly - on this night… All four drivers would get their earliest lessons in the Maritimes and all four continue to do it well here in Ontario.
