A Few Things to Remember

  • Entries to be delivered to the entry office
  • Please read the General Rules and Information
  • Only works of art completed in the last three years (2018) that are finished, framed and ready to hang, will be accepted.
  • Entry tags will not be mailed.  Entry tags will be presented upon delivery of exhibit.
  • We suggest exhibitors entering an article of value, arrange for their own insurance coverage, if desired.
  • Exhibitors may enter both classes but may only submit one entry per section.
  • Judges will be looking for uniqueness and creativity.


Painting and Drawing (PD)

ENTRY FEE: $2.00/section. This is a juried competition.

A Few Things to Remember

  • Maximum size not to exceed 92cm x 92cm (36” x 36”).
  • Must be framed and ready to hang.
  • Maximum of two (2) entries per exhibitor in each section.

Fibre Arts (FA)

ENTRY FEE: $2.00/section. This is a juried competition.

Check out beautiful work by local artisans. 2020 competition classes include knitting, weaving, crochet and embroidery.  It’s time to put your fibre art skills to the test! Enter your creations in the Fibre Arts Competition section of the Western Fair for a chance to win fabulous prizes.

  • The $2.00 Entry fee applies to each section (FA has 11 sections) Exhibitors may enter all classes but may submit only one entry per section.


1. WEARABLES: Scarfs, hats, slippers or anything that you can wear.
2. BLANKETS/AFGHANS: Baby blanket, not to exceed 160 inches outside area
3. BLANKETS/AFGHANS: Lap - Minimum 36” x 40, maximum 45” x 60”
4. BLANKETS/AFGHANS: Regular/full size. Minimum 45” x 60”


5. HAND EMBROIDERY: Any hand-embroidered article. Examples include pillowcases, dresser scarfs, tablecloths, etc.
6. CROSS STITCH: Any hand cross-stitched item. Examples include: pictures, bookmarks.
7. POP CULTURE CROSS STITCH: Any hand cross-stitched item that references pop culture.


8. ADULT’S SWEATER: Sweater or cardigan.
9. BABY’S OUTFIT: A set of sweater and pants or complete onesie.
11. NON-WEARABLE: A creative knitted item. Examples: tea towels, dishcloths, blanket, pillow.
12. WEARABLES: Any wearable knitting article. E.g.: mittens, adult sweater, hat, etc.



Fibre Arts – Quilt Class (FAQ)

ENTRY FEE: $2.00/section. This is a juried competition.

Rules for Entry:

  • Entries must be finished, clean and in good condition. 
  • Maximum size not to exceed 500 inches, outside area. 

  • Attach a 6” hanging sleeve to the back of all quilts/wall hangings.  All entries must be ready to hang. Please baste a piece of fabric over any permanent name label on your quilt

  • Submit each entry in a clear plastic bag marked with your name, address, phone number and the competition category.  Enclose a copy of your completed entry form with your quilt(s)

  • Quilt must include the finish date (stitched after 2018). 

  • Exhibitors may enter all sections but may only submit one entry per section.


1. Bed Quilt: Minimum 324 inches, outside area (Hand-quilted)
2. Bed Quilt: Minimum 324 inches, outside area (Mid and Long Arm technique)
3. Bed Quilt: Minimum 324 inches, outside area (Domestic machine)
4. Crib Quilt: Minimum 140 inches outside area, make your own design or use a pre-stamped panel (Hand-quilted)
5. Quilted Wall Hanging: Minimum 80 inches, outside area, any shape (Mid and Long Arm technique)
6. Quilted Wall Hanging: Minimum 80 inches, outside area, any shape (Domestic machine)



The exhibitor who wins Grand Champion quilt is eligible to enter their quilt in the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (O.A.A.S.) competition.  To enter this competition the Grand Champion Quilt must compete in the District 13 Quilt Competition in November.  The first prize quilt from the District Competition is then entered in the O.A.A.S.  Competition which is held at their annual convention in February.  The entry judged BEST OF SHOW at the February Convention will be declared the O.A.A.S. Championship Quilt.  A $500.00 grand prize will be awarded and the exhibitor will retain ownership of the quilt.  The second-place prize money of $100.00 will be awarded to the runner-up.

  1. Quilt must be solely made and machine quilted by the exhibitor.
  2. Quilt to be measured on the perimeter.  Total perimeter measurement to be a minimum of 324 inches.
