JOB DESCRIPTION – Market Business Development Manager 

Job Type: Full-Time 



We have an exciting opportunity to join London’s premier Market in the role of Business Development Manager. 

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for vendor administration, market promotions and communications, new vendor procurement and existing vendor relations with a key focus on ensuring strategic business growth for The Market.   

This role supports the Market Management Team in public relations, customer service, program planning and implementation and a shared general oversight and accountability on market days and production days to ensure the safety, and positive experience for our market for customers, vendors and employees. 


You have the opportunity to join The Market which has been VOTED LONDON’S BEST FLEA/FARMER’S MARKET for several years running.  The Market at Western Fair District is a vibrant gathering place bringing community, food and artisans together. Offering a wide range of seasonal ingredients, unique vendors and artisans, The Market supports Western Fair District’s vision of creating unique experiences that build positive memories while also serving the organization’s agricultural mandate.  With approximately 100 vendors, The Market is located in the Confederation Building at Western Fair District and is currently open to the public every Saturday from 8am – 3pm and Sunday 10am-2pm. 


Vendor Recruitment and Relationship Building:  Procurement/Recruitment of new vendors to fill vacancies that meet selection criteria, and achieve optimal market mix. Retention and relationship building with current vendors to support strategic business growth.  Ensure all new and current vendors complete applications, rental contracts, insurance, payments and follow vendor rules and regulations.  Communicate respectfully with vendors when enforcing regulations. 

Communications and Market Promotion: Work with Director of Marketing/Market Team to plan social and marketing goals and objectives each fiscal.  Generate, develop, and execute creative campaigns that help achieve business/customer growth, publish weekly creative social media content, media stories when possible, and responding to media inquiries when required.  Publish any associated vendor communications.  Maintain/update the Market’s vendor listings on The Market web site. Represent the market in meetings with internal/external stakeholders, building positive community relations.   

Event/Program Planning: In conjunction with Market Management & Vendors, will develop and coordinate content for annual special events/festivals to enhance The Market, activate the adjacent park/terrace to support the Market, compliment the annual fair in September, and source, contract and organize weekly Buskers and market entertainment as required.  

Vendor Administration 

Maintain accurate and complete records on market vendors throughout the year. Perform administrative duties including answering inquiries, invoicing and timely rent collection along with other required information, vendor forecasts, analytical duties and research used in strategic planning.  

Work Week 

The schedule is based on a five-day work week.  Must be available and on site during most of the Market’s public operating hours (Saturday 8 a.m. - 3 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. & Wednesday nights during the summer) to ensure smooth operation.  Be visible and accessible to vendors and customers during market days. Two days off through the week.     


Interest and passion for farmers’ markets and artisan shopping  

Strong leadership skills as well as excellent conflict management skills   

Able to communicate well, both in writing and orally, with a variety of stakeholders in a variety of situations  

Previous marketing experience an asset with a special focus on social media and digital marketing strategies. Experience working with or updating web pages is an asset 

Time management and organizational skills are critical  

Invoicing vendors – experience with the Ungerboeck, or similar platform, is an asset 

Experience in food service management would be an asset. Knowledge of food safety and health unit regulations for food vendors  

Previous experience in management of a farmers’/flea market an asset 

Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule

Act as an Ambassador throughout the Community, positively representing the Western Fair District 

Abide by the policies and procedures of Western Fair District 

Other duties as assigned in order to achieve the overall goals and objectives of the Western Fair District 



Lifting of up to 20 kgs. where required 

Frequent standing, walking and stairs 

Event coordination and set-up, lifting, reaching, pushing, etc. to prepare event area 

Building has no HVAC, venue can be cold or hot in extreme weather
