THIS WEEK’S COMEDIANS
Rob Ross was born to be a stand-up comic. Or, more accurately, Rob Ross dropped out of university to be a stand-up comic. Tentatively taking the stage as an awkward and gangly 18 year old, Ross knew stand-up was his destiny/only option. (Now that is passion).
Now a veteran touring headliner with many years experience under his belt, he has amassed an impressive list of performing credits; Comedy Now!, Comics!, Just For Laughs, Halifax Comedy Festival, Winnipeg Comedy Festival, Open Mike with Mike Bullard, Madly Off In All Directions and many more too numerous (or less impressive) to mention.
Since moving from Alberta to Toronto in 1993, Ross has also found steady work as a television writer. His credits include; Rick Mercer’s Monday Report, Royal Canadian Air Farce, The Geminis, The Junos, The NHL Awards (and many more failed television pilots too depressing to mention). Currently, he is a creative producer with MTV Canada.
On stage Ross has a unique style - relaxed yet fast paced. His material is intelligent and original. If you’ve read this far you should probably book him.
Michael Moses is one of the fastest rising stars in Canada, with a win at the 2014 Go Yuk Yourself Competition, a finalist at the 2015 Brantford Rising Stars Competition, a headliner at the 2017 Border City Comedy Festival, and was a part of the 2017 Devil’s Cup Comedy Festival in New York City and the Seattle International Comedy Competition in 2018. He has been invited to the 2019 Halifax Comedy Festival to tape his first national TV taping. He has opened for Big Jay Oakerson, and Randy and Lahey of The Trailer Park Boys. Michael is definitely a comedian you will be happy you saw.
Young, hot and cuddly, Jay Brown first did stand up at seven years of age in Jamaica. He was on vacation with his family and attended an open mic night at the hotel’s beach party. He was a big hit and was forever bitten by the comedy bug.
A professional comic since 1988, he has toured all over Canada, the United States, and parts of Europe. A regular on the Yuk Yuk’s International circuit, he has opened for Andy Kindler (Everybody Loves Raymond), Doug Stanhope (The Man Show), and dated Heather Locklear. That last one isn’t really a credit but it’s true and he tells everybody so you’ll eventually hear about it anyway.
Hard edged yet affable, Brown relates hip anecdotes and clever observations with a no holds barred, take no prisoner attitude.
The tattooed Brown has recently added his show stopping electric guitar talents to the mix and brings crowds to their feet with comedy and hard rock licks.
It’s one of the most unique musical/comedy infusions since Henny Youngman jammed with Jimmy Hendrix and has made Jay the most sought after acts anywhere. Clubs are clamoring to book him for return engagements within weeks as opposed to the usual 12 to 16 months.
