This Week’s Comedians
Young, hot and cuddly, Jay Brown first did stand up at seven years of age in Jamaica. He was on vacation with his family and attended an open mic night at the hotel’s beach party. He was a big hit and was forever bitten by the comedy bug.
A professional comic since 1988, he has toured all over Canada, the United States, and parts of Europe. A regular on the Yuk Yuk’s International circuit, he has opened for Andy Kindler (Everybody Loves Raymond), Doug Stanhope (The Man Show), and dated Heather Locklear. That last one isn’t really a credit but it’s true and he tells everybody so you’ll eventually hear about it anyway.
Hard edged yet affable, Brown relates hip anecdotes and clever observations with a no holds barred, take no prisoner attitude.
The tattooed Brown has recently added his show stopping electric guitar talents to the mix and brings crowds to their feet with comedy and hard rock licks.
It’s one of the most unique musical/comedy infusions since Henny Youngman jammed with Jimmy Hendrix and has made Jay the most sought after acts anywhere. Clubs are clamoring to book him for return engagements within weeks as opposed to the usual 12 to 16 months.
Darryl Orr is a 35 year old stand-up comedian, musician, and coward. In 2010 Darryl was honoured to be one of the finalists for the Tim Sims Encouragement Fund award for an outstanding new comic. He lost, but quickly bounced back to lose the Bite TV’s Standup and Bite Me competition in 2011. In 2013 Darryl was featured on iChannel’s stand-up comedy show ‘No Kidding”. 2014 finally saw the success he deserved as Darryl landed the coveted “Big 3” Comedy Festivals, taping TV spots for Montreal Just For Laughs, Winnipeg Comedy Festival and Halifax Comedy Festival. Darryl continues to scoot around the GTA, banging his head against the wall in various comedy clubs and on independent shows, telling jokes that *he* doesn’t even get sometimes.
Nigel Grinstead’s laid back charm and absurd takes on life have earned him the reputation of being one of the goofiest and most imaginative upcoming comics in the Canadian scene. His work ethic and jovial nature has landed him opportunities within festivals such as Just For Laughs, NXNE, Cottage Country Comedy Festival, and No Kidding on iChannel. On top of festival performances and countless appearances on the GTA comedy scene, Nigel has travelled coast to coast and can be heard on CBC and SiriusXM Radio. Nigel was also the recipient of the Tim Sim’s Encouragement Fund, a prize for his victory at Cream of Comedy 2013, and was the victor of the 2014 Toronto Comedy Brawl as well as a finalist in SiriusXM’s Top Comic competition. Recently he made his debut at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal and took home the win at the Homegrown contest: an annual contest recognizing the strongest upcoming Canadian talent.
