THIS WEEK’S COMEDIANS

Headliner

Cedric Newman

Cedric was born in Jamaica, raised in Montreal and now calls Toronto home.

A long serving professional who’s graced stages across Canada and throughout Europe. He doesn’t stop there…he’s participated in radio shows, festivals, fundraisers and corporate events to name a few. He’s had the pleasure of working with some of the industries big names such as Russel Peters, Shaun Majunder, and Gerry Dee.

Cedric’s passion and versatility is apparent when he’s on stage and his love for making people laugh is undeniable.

Watch for him in the Halifax Comedy Festival airing on CBC Television fall 2018.

Middle

Ted Morris

Ted Morris always looks like he’s having the most fun in the room when he’s on stage. His intelligent, off-beat humour and wickedly charming smile lets us all know that our slightly warped thoughts are just fine. He’s equal parts boy-next-door and boy-your-mother-warned-you-about with just enough boy-you-want-to-hang-out-with-at-the-party-to-laugh-at-everyone-else-with (and know you’re safe!) to keep things interesting.

Born in Ottawa and now making his home in Toronto, Ted discovered his love of stand-up while getting his degree in veterinary medicine. While he still spends some time working as small animal vet, his comedy career is taking off and he has found that it’s much more gratifying to “kill” on stage. He’s been called “fresh faced and hilarious” and “a real gem” by Now Magazine, and slightly ruder things by strangers in the street.

Ted currently tours Canada working for Yuk Yuk’s, the largest chain of comedy clubs in the country. A favourite of the festival circuit, he has performed at the “We’re Funny That Way” (Toronto), London, Halifax,  Winnipeg, Glasgow, Sudbury, Out of Bounds (Austin, Texas), Laughing Devil (Atlanta, Georgia), North Carolina Comedy Arts, NXNE (Toronto) and JFL42 (Toronto) Comedy Festivals, and can be heard around the world on SiriusXM and CBC Radio’s The Debaters and LOL.

His TV appearances include two stand-up specials for Pridevision TV (as both a performer and producer), The Toronto Show, The Comedy Network’s Canadian Comedy Shorts, MuchMoreMusic’s Heat Meter, The Smart Woman’s Survival Guide and The Halifax Comedy Festival on CBC. Ted’s hour-long Comedy Now! stand-up special on The Comedy Network (Canada) debuted in 2012.  His web series The Giant Comes Out is currently being developed into a TV series. He is also a nationally syndicated radio columnist sharing his vet wisdom across Canada on CBC Radio, is the featured vet on the international magazine show Steven and Chris airing on CBC and runs a monthly phone-in veterinary advice show on Zoomer Radio.

Emcee

Andrew Johnston

Andrew Johnston is a veteran Canadian LGBTQ stand-up comic who has toured all over the world. He created, produces and hosts Toronto’s “Bitch Salad”, a groundbreaking comedy show founded in 2007 featuring female comedians for an LGBTQ audience. He’s clocked multiple appearances at Montreal’s Just For Laugh’s Festival, San Francisco’s Sketch Comedy Festival and held court for several years as one of the regulars on MuchMusic’s top rated series “Video On Trial”. Released in 2014, his debut comedy album “White Devil” was an instant hit, and was followed up by 2018’s even-more uproarious album “*Sips Tea*”. Andrew can currently be seen part of the legendary Laugh Sabbath comedy collective every Thursday at Comedy Bar until his U.S. Green Card is activated.
