Run The DIstrict’s last race, the Classic Championship will be in support of the Boys & Girls Club’s Koats for Kids program. Race participants are encourage to wear or bring extra winter apparel to be ‘tossed’ at the start of the race and collected as part of a donation to the program. Let’s keep the kids of London warm!
Help us ensure every child and youth is warm for the winter!
“Koats for Kids” is a community service of the Boys and Girls Club of London with area businesses and service clubs acting as partners in this very worthwhile undertaking – to ensure that every child is warm in the winter! Members from the Horton Street Seniors’ Centre, Club staff, students and community volunteers help distribute new or gently used coats and winter apparel in good condition of any size.
One coat will be given to each child free of charge while quantities last. Identification will be required for each individual receiving a coat. Children don’t have to be present to receive a coat but proper identification is required. There is no registration for this program.
In late September and early October, we start our appeal to the public. We ask them to drop off the winter apparel to the Club or at any of participating drop off locations consisting of local businesses, organizations, schools throughout the city.
In 2014, we distributed 1,300 winter coats and countless hats, mitts, scarves, boots and snow pants to families in need.

Four Pledging Options:
- United Way Community Fund
Donations will be allocated towards local community programs supporting the three significant United Way Impact Areas: poverty, mental health and beginnings & transition.
- GenNext Backpack Drive for Kids
Help children and youth in our community start school in September with the supplies they need to succeed! Donations will be used to purchase school supplies items in support of the GenNext Backpack Drive like calculators, rulers and geometry kits and lunch boxes.
- Food Security: Pantry Starter Kits
One of the major barriers to food security for those who access basic needs resources in our community through our Neighbourhood Resource Centres is access to basic supplies to get them started as they move towards stable housing. Donations will be used to support local Neighbourhood Resource Centres in their on-going efforts to ease this transition to stable housing and food security.
- Hygiene Products for those living in poverty
Proceeds will be used to support local agencies in their efforts to provide basic-needs hygiene products to those in our community living in poverty.
Locally driven and governed, United Way is a non-denominational, registered charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of all people in our community and helping individuals, families, neighbourhoods and communities reach their full potential.
