A Few Things to Remember

  • All prints to be identified on the entry form and to include a max. 5 word description, neatly written e.g. where the image was taken, geography, time of day, building name, funny incident etc.
  • Please read General Rules and Information, click here.
  • Entries to be delivered to the Canada Building
  • All entries must be made online or on the printed entry form found at the end of this book.
  • An image may be entered into only one class. The exhibitor must decide as to the class and section in which to enter their prints.
  • Entry tags will not be mailed to exhibitors.
  • Judging will be done by a committee of at least three and not more than five qualified persons.
  • A maximum of 4 prints per person per section.

Mount Board Criteria

  • Print Size: Minimum 20cm x 25cm (8” x 10”), Maximum 40cm x 51cm (16” x 20”).
  • Mount board must be of heavy card (matt board) or dense foam core. Poster or construction board will not be accepted.
  • Mount board/matt board must be 40cm x 51cm (16” x 20”) or the entry will not be accepted.
  • Print must be firmly attached to the matt board with double sided tape, liquid paste adhesive or spray adhesive.
  • It is the responsibility of the photographer to ensure print is securely fastened to the matt board or foam core. Prints are handled with care once submitted but once they are hung humidity can cause mount boards and water based adhesives to bend or peel. For this reason we ask you to make sure your name is on the back of the print as well as on the mounting board.
  • Acceptance stickers will be placed on the back of all prints hung.
      

Awards

Special by Western Fair District & C.A.P.A. - BEST PRINT IN SHOW
The winner of Best Print in Show will receive an additional award of $75 from the Western Fair District. A Gold Medal from C.A.P.A. (Canadian Association of Photographic Art) and the winners name will be added to the Best Print Trophy. Please note: The Best Print becomes the property of the Western Fair District.

 

Advanced Competition – (PHA)

Serious hobbyist, commercial or professional photographer

ENTRY FEE: $5/Section(Fee includes four prints per section)
Prize Money for each Section

SECTION & DESCRIPTION

1. ANIMALS, BIRDS & INSECTS

Live animals, birds and insects including household pets, farm and domesticated animals and/or fowl, zoo housed animals and/or birds.

2. ARCHITECTURAL OR INDUSTRIAL STUDY

Any man-made structure or industrial setting. Building, bridge, machinery or equipment, any age.

3. HUMAN INTEREST

Show off those great action shots showing what Canadians love to do, such as backyard hockey games, city baseball tournaments or planting our great maple trees.

4. NATURE STUDY

Live fauna and flora in its natural environment. Note: No subject should show human impact. Road, house, fence, cultivated plant, domestic animal or people.

5. SCAPES

Landscapes, seascapes, snow scenes, cityscapes, nightscapes.

6. PORTRAIT

Of a person.

7. STILL LIFE

Inanimate subjects such as glassware, garden plants, fruits, etc.

8. COLOUR: The Moods of Blue

Using different SHADES, TONES, or HUES let the colour of blue come alive.

9. ROOTS OF THE FAIR –Agricultural

From crops, to machinery, barns and animals, farmers are the backbone of Canada and our fair.

10. BLACK & WHITE – No Colour Allowed

Simply pure black, white or shades in between.

Intermediate Competition - (PHI)

Active family photographer enjoying the hobby of photography

Guidelines

  • Either mount one picture or cut and paste a few of your favourite photo’s to tell a story.
  • All entries must be mounted on the 8 ½” x 11” construction paper or heavy grade paper (letter size)
  • Print must be firmly attached to the paper with double sided tape, liquid paste adhesive or spray adhesive.
