Meet London Dairy Congress Speakers Dr. Bethany Muir & Owain Harries.

Dr. Bethany Muir - Sales & Marketing Manager, Cogent Canada

Dr. Bethany Muir, is responsible for all sales and marketing related activities and the total performance/profit of the Canadian sales business, as Sales and Marketing Manager for Cogent Canada – an aggressive and progressive dairy genetic company.

After completing her PhD in Animal Genetics at the University of Guelph, Dr. Bethany Muir was a geneticist at The Canadian Dairy Network (CDN) where she conducted research and provided genetic evaluation services. From 2005 to 2010, as Research & Development Coordinator for Holstein Canada, Bethany conducted data analyses and reporting, provided extension and education support to staff and industry and was instrumental in developing and launching the All Breeds Genomic Testing Service. Prior to joining Cogent Canada this past summer, Bethany managed the Classification, Field Service, Awards, Genetics and Extension teams at Holstein Canada for more than six years. Bethany is a member of the Genetic Evaluation Board of CDN where she provides insight and leadership as an Industry specialist for enhancements to genetic and genomic evaluations in Canada.

Owain Harries - Genetic Procurement Manager

Owain grew up on a dairy farm in south west Wales in the U.K. Where they keep a herd of 100 registered Holsteins and 30 Dairy Shorthorns. For the last 6 years Owain has worked in the genetics department at Cogent Breeding Ltd, initially as Sire Analyst and more recently as the Genetic Procurement Manager overseeing all dairy and beef genetic acquisitions for the business and devising the genetic strategy for the business. Outside of work Owain has a key interest in Rugby, farming and cattle judging, having qualified as the youngest judge to enter the National Judging Panel for the UK Dairy Shorthorn breed.
