Security staff report directly to the Security and Traffic Manager.  They provide assistance, direction and exceptional customer service to patrons and staff, provide high visibility security to patrons and staff and are responsible for performing Security functions.  In addition they ensure the peaceful enjoyment of our facilities by our customers and are responsible for the enforcement of Western Fair District policies as well as any legislated Regulations.

Responsibilities of Security

  • Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Responsible for the usage of audio equipment.
  • Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Responsible for keeping recordings that may be used as evidence in any legal proceedings. 
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time and/or carry out routine foot patrols.
  • Operates and maintains various equipment and vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
  • Attends all departmental meetings as well as all safety and professional development training sessions as directed.
  • Maintains professional licenses. (Security Licence, ORC Licence, Smart Serve, etc).
  • Must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Western Fair District Health & Safety Policy and Awareness Program/Safety Manual, all Western Fair District procedures and any other applicable legislation.
  • Other related duties and required or assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications

Grade 12 education combined with 5 years security experience OR Post Secondary education (Law & Security, Police Foundations) with 2 years experience (may consider related experience).

Must maintain a professional license in Security by the Province of Ontario

Able to obtain AGCO and ORC license

First Aid & CPR

Driver’s license

Must be physically fit and able to carry out the duties and assignments of this position.

Must possess strong public relations/customer service skills.

Must have good communication skills (oral and written).

Able to effectively communicate with customers and patrons providing information and direction.

Exhibit good judgment and decision making skills.

Able to effectively communicate with and report any equipment problems to Supervisor.

Required to carry out duties and complete appropriate reports/documents as outlined in the Standing Orders.

Must be able to work without direct supervision.

May be required to stand for long periods of time and/or carry out routine foot patrols.

Working Conditions:

  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Atypical work hours.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends including holidays
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions.

The Traffic and Security Supervisor reports directly to the Security and Traffic Manager and indirectly to the Director of Facility Development.

Responsible to support security and traffic operations of Western Fair District.

Trains, schedules, assigns staff.

Handles customer complaints.

Ensures the peaceful enjoyment of our facilities by our customers.

Provides supervision for Security and Traffic team.

 

Responsibilities of the Security and Traffic Supervisor

 

  • Develop, coach and train an elevated customer experience team.
  • Maintains internal and external customer service as a number one priority.
  • Supervises, schedules, trains, coaches and disciplines assigned permanent and temporary security and Traffic staff.
  • May investigate occurrences and prepare reports.
  • Handles customer complaints referring more complex situations to Manager and/or Director.
  • Actively performs frequent review of staff duties.
  • Maintains all current awareness of all related laws and bylaws and standards affecting the services of the organization in the area of responsibility.
  • Monitors schedule to ensure labour savings are realized where possible.
  • Maintains all current professional licenses. (Security License, ORC License, Smart Serve, etc)
  • Assists other managers and staff during all events including live racing and the annual Fair.
  • Must be fully security trained.
  • Must be physically fit and able to carry out the duties and assignments of this position.
  • Will be on call for emergencies
  • Attend all departmental meetings as well as all safety and professional development training sessions as directed.
  • Must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Western Fair District Health & Safety Policy and Awareness Program/Safety Manual, all Western Fair District procedures and any other applicable legislation.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Will be required to work a variety of shifts and events, including nights and weekends. (Normal work week will vary depending on business needs)

  • Courses at the college level is an asset.
  • 2-3 years related experience in supervisory role.
  • Security license.
  • ORC license.
  • Valid driver’s license.

The HVAC and Refrigeration Service Technician reports directly to the Director of Facility Support Services.  The HVAC and Refrigeration Service Technician is responsible for all preventative maintenance and repairs for the HVAC, refrigeration, steam boilers, hot water boilers and kitchen equipment for the entire grounds, recommends and budgets for major repairs or equipment replacement including capital projects and performs other maintenance tasks relating to the major events and facility uses of the organization.

Responsibilities of the The HVAC and Refrigeration Service Technician:

  • Responsible for the preventative maintenance program on all Western Fair District HVAC, refrigeration, exhaust systems, heat pumps and food service equipment, etc.
  • Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units, including boilers, gas and electrically operated air-conditioning equipment, food and beverage equipment making all necessary repairs and adjustments
  • Repair or replace defective parts in equipment and their controls including but not limited to thermostats, switches, fan controls, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, compressors, heat exchangers, and all types of valves
  • Repair or rebuild semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, and screw compressors
  • Test and examine boiler operations, observing meter and pressure gauges, conduct boiler water quality test and treatment, adjust boiler burner combustion
  • Works with and directs outside contractors as necessary.
  • Make recommendations on equipment repair and/or replacement.
  • Prepares reports concerning area of responsibility.
  • Maintain a general maintenance log and report all issues to the manager.
  • Maintains inventory of materials and supplies, records, files and information.
  • Assists in event set up and tear down including the annual fair, gas hook ups etc.
  • Assists in capital building projects in professional capacity.
  • Attend all departmental meetings as well as all safety and professional development training sessions as directed.
  • Maintains current professional licenses.
  • Ensures work area is clean and safe.
  • Maintains related preventive maintenance records and daily shift-log books as required for TSSA, ESA, CSA, and WFD
  • Operates and maintains various vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
  • Must be physically fit and able to carry out the duties and assignments of this position.
  • May be required to work any and all shifts as assigned.
  • Carries a WFD issued cell phone and is on call for emergencies.
  • Must be able to work without direct supervision.
  • May supervise and/or direct other staff and/or outside contractors.
  • Must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Western Fair District Health & Safety Policy and Awareness Program/Safety Manual, all Western Fair District procedures and any other applicable legislation.
  • Responsible for following and enforcing all company policies within the department, dress code, conduct code, contract and agreement signing policy, purchasing policy and expense reporting policy. 
  • Other related duties and required or assigned.

Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications:

  • Grade 12
  • Refrigeration – A/C Mechanic license
  • Two years of documentable HVAC Journeyman level operation, maintenance, and repair experience in the HVAC and refrigeration trade
  • Two years of documentable of experience with Hydronic Heating
  • Knowledge of standard practises and theory of the HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, ordinances and regulation of Province of Ontario and local authorities pertaining to HVAC, refrigeration, gas, and steam boilers
  • ODP license
  • Gas Fitters license
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of Automated (DDC) and Pneumatic controls is an asset.
  • DDC Delta (Orcaview) experience is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Ammonia and all types of Freon refrigerants

Ability To:

  • Perform skilled mechanical maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, installation, and alteration of WFD heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and related equipment throughout all of our facilities
  •  Calibration of all types of HVAC systems
  •  Perform preventative maintenance and routine servicing of equipment
  • Diagnose defects, and install, repair and maintain heating, ventilating, refrigeration and air conditioning units
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Operate specialized machinery/equipment utilized in the repair of HVAC equipment.  Includes but not limited to refrigerant recovery units, vacuum pumps, refrigerant leak detectors
  • Maintain accurate records for invoicing, inventory control, and preventative maintenance records keeping.
  • Preparation of reports as needed.
  • Ability to obtain AGCO license
  • Able to obtain OLG license
  • Forklift and Aerial lift license

 

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting, or walking
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching
  •  Requires the ability to regularly lift, carry, push or pull medium weights up to 75 lbs
  • Requires activities involving being around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and possible exposure to dust and dirt
