Job Description
  • Must be physically fit and able to carry out the duties and assignments of this position.

  • May be required to stand for long periods of time and/or carry out routine foot patrols.
  • Operates and maintains various equipment and vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
  • May be required to work any and all shifts as assigned.
  • Attends all departmental meetings as well as all safety and professional development training sessions as directed.
  • Maintains professional licenses. (Security Licence, ORC Licence, Smart Serve, etc).
  • Must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Western Fair District Health & Safety Policy and Awareness Program/Safety Manual, all Western Fair District procedures and any other applicable legislation.
  • Other related duties and required or assigned.
 Skills and Qualifications

Grade 12 education combined with 5 years security experience OR Post Secondary education (Law & Security, Police Foundations) with 2 years experience (may consider related experience).

Must maintain a professional license in Security by the Province of Ontario

Able to obtain AGCO and ORC license

Customer Relations –Help Desk

Job Description

The Customer Relations – Help Desk position reports directly to the Customer Experience Supervisor.  The Customer Relations – Help Desk position is responsible for a wide variety of customer service duties including greeting of customers, taking reservations and ticket and gift card sales.  The ideal candidate is a highly energetic individual, with previous customer service experience and is available to work weeknights and weekends.  

 

Responsibilities of the Customer Relations – Help Desk:

 

  • Brand advocate for the District.  Sets the example for all staff, customers and community on what it means to be a District employee: Caring, energetic, imaginative, highly principled, team-driven and dedicated to the organizations mandate, image, goals and objectives.
  • Performs reception and customer services duties in the Grandstand Raceway lobby area.
  • Performs administrative support functions as assigned.
  • Responds to general information request by customers and the public in person, by telephone or by email.
  • Selling WFA event tickets, taking reservations and responsible for cash balance.
  • Must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Western Fair District Health & Safety Policy and Awareness Program/Safety Manual, all Western Fair District procedures and any other applicable legislation.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Grade 12
  • 6-12 months related work experience
  • PC and keyboarding skill as required for the position
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
  • Exceptional Customer Service Skills
  • Knowledge of Multi-line phone system
  • Basic knowledge of horseracing
  • Knowledge of the District, - events, services, processes etc

Event Services – Event Personnel

Job Description

  • Operates all aspects of events on WFD grounds, including setup, event and tear down time periods.
  • Performs janitorial duties throughout WFD Event facilities. 
  • Responsible for snow removal around all WFD Event facilities, including documentation in required log book of all snow removal occurrences.
  • Responsible for appearance outside Event facilities, including garbage removal and changing of dump bins as required.
  • Required to obtain and maintain WFD Forklift and Aerial Lift Device certification as required.
  • Assists with small painting projects and minor repairs.  Reports major repair requirements to Event Services Supervisor.
  • Responsible for setup and teardown requirements in the Carousel Room according to layouts provided.
  • Must fill out Caretakers Log Book, Forklift and Aerial Lift Device Log Books and other documentation assigned.
  • Maintain inventories on WFD supplies and equipment and report needs to the Events Services Supervisor. 
  • Must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Western Fair District Health & Safety Policy and Awareness Program/Safety Manual, all Western Fair District procedures and any other applicable legislation.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work evenings, midnights and weekends as required and be able to work in any WFD facility required.

  • Minimum Secondary School Education – Grade 12.
  • 1-6 months related experience.
  • WHMIS Certification
  • Experience in the Exposition Industry would be an asset
Previous Forklift and Aerial Lift Training and Operation would be an asset

Event Services – Grandstand Operations

Job Description
  • Required to setup and maintain any event requirements within the Grandstand facilities.  Assists Event Personnel with setup and removal in Carousel Room.
  • Responsible for all janitorial cleaning of floors, tables, chairs and other equipment within the Simulcast, Top of the Fair, Live Racing and Carousel Room areas. 
  • Operate and maintain all cleaning equipment and report any issues to the Event Services Supervisor. 
  • Responsible to clean and maintain washroom facilities in all Grandstand facilities. 
  • Required to perform minor repairs, lighting and ceiling tile replacements in Grandstand areas as well as the Carousel Room and Top of the Fair. 
  • Responsible for snow removal and salting when required in all Grandstand areas, as well as documentation of each occurrence in Caretaker’s Log Book.  Must also clean and change entrance matting as required.
  • Responsible for cleaning, maintenance and up keep of the Racing Grandstand and Patio areas, including snow removal, salting and documentation.
  • Change signs as needed within the Grandstand area. 
  • Keep an inventory of supplies and equipment needed and provide report to the Event Services Supervisor. 
  • Assist when necessary in all other areas of the Western Fair District. 
  • Must comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Western Fair District Health & Safety Policy and Awareness Program/Safety Manual, all Western Fair District procedures and any other applicable legislation.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work evenings, midnights and weekends as required.
